Formally declared as a sovereign nation by a General Assembly Resolution in May 2005, our people have chosen to be called In-SHUCK-ch (in-chuck-sh). The name is taken from the sacred mountain of In-SHUCK-ch in order to distinguish ourselves from the rest of the Stl’atl’imx or St’át’imc (stat-lee-um) peoples.
As we seek to grow the economy in our territory, we are in the process of developing sustainable business ventures that create wealth for our people in the form of jobs with living wages, improved infrastructure and living conditions, and revenue to invest in our future.
Beyond sustaining ourselves and our families, business success will allow the In-SHUCK-ch Nation to invest in preserving and enhancing our culture and identity. We won’t be truly self-governing until we no longer rely on government to provide for us.
